Flexcel Direct System

Description

The Kodak Flexcel Direct System provides customers access to in-house plate making and the creation of continuous image carriers to expand flexo capabilities. The Flexcel Direct System uses no solvents, has a low cost of ownership and integrates with your current Kodak workflow to produce flat plates, plate on sleeve and continuous in-the-round image carriers.

For those who are new to flexographic plate making, the Flexcel Direct System provides a simple, robust solution for the production of plates and sleeves that requires no UV exposure steps or additional plate processing. The system's versatility supports the owner's progression to imaging in-the-round when continuous images are desired.

Key to the many features and benefits of the Flexcel Direct System are:
  - Kodak's unique laser imaging technology using laser diodes for fast, accurate engraving
  - Resolution of 175 lpi
  - Energy efficiency
  - Process control
  - Low cost of ownership

The complete Flexcel Direct System has been designed with efficiency and productivity in mind. The FLEXCEL Direct Plate and Sleeve material is optimized to the imaging system for maximum engraving speed. Higher lines per inch and process optimization make the system a complete package for a driect engraving solution.

Elimination of unecessary processing steps removes potential sources of plate, and final print, variability. The Flexcel Direct System is a simple two-step engrave and rinse process. Automatic laser calibrations, high-accuracy laser control and precision dynamic autofocus help ensure consistent, repeatable engraving. The software is user friendly and comes with pre-defined standard 3D techniques for a range of print applications. The engraving system is integrated to reduce the learning curve and starts providing value from the start. Ergonomic design of the engraving device facilitates the loading and unloading of sleeves, completing the system.

The unique 3D structure created during engraving results in image features that are optimized for printing:
  - Variable shoulders with increased slope angle at the surface create sharp images
  - The sculpted base of the features provide maximum support during printing
  - Accurate, controlled relief depth results in a print form that remains clean during printing
  - High engineered elastomers provide excellent ink transfer and lay down with a variety of substrates and inks
  - Flat top dot technology

These distinct characteristics deliver enhanced print quality and increase stability resulting in open shadows, clear highlights, clean text, smooth vignettes and uniform ink lay down.
