Since 1956, Flexi Printing Plate has been a place where quality and craftsmanship meet new technology. The company has developed a rigorous, standard-based color management program and works actively with brand owners and printer-converters to create a process that yields optimal results from flexographic presses.
When Flexi decided to partner with trusted dealer Anderson & Vreeland on a flexographic CTP solution from Kodak, the company raised the color bar even higher.
Company management recognized flexo CTP as a way to expand the trade platemaker’s growth options in a challenging business environment. As co-owner Fred Moss notes, “Implementing this Kodak Solution has enhanced our color philosophy, by providing our flexographic printing customers with the ability to reproduce a larger, predictable tonal range. We knew this could enhance our competitive advantage and open the doors to new business.”
State of the art technology from Kodak

In early 2007, Flexi installed a Kodak ThermoFlex Wide Platesetter, Kodak Prinergy Evo Workflow System with a TIFF Front End that includes the new Kodak TIFF Assembler Plus Software, and an Advanced Screening Tower that includes Kodak HyperFlex Resolution Enhancement Software, Kodak Maxtone Hybrid Screening and Kodak Digicap Screening.
Flexi Printing Plate has seamlessly transitioned the majority of its narrow-, mid-and wide-web flexo jobs to the new workflow, and has been impressed with the efficiency and process control improvements made possible by the new system.
General Manager Brian Kutz notes, “The Prinergy System has increased both our efficiency and capabilities. The ThermoFlex Platesetter’s accuracy and repeatability has enhanced our product offering.”
Staying ahead of the competition
Fred Moss adds, “Kodak Screening Technologies were the deciding factor in our purchase decision.” Kodak’s screening bundle enhances resolution, improves highlight and vignette reproduction, overall detail and tonal range, and improves process stability and consistency. Fred continues, “Quality has always been our competitive advantage, and this advanced screening software differentiates us even further.”
Brian Kutz adds, “We can now color correct with a larger tonal range, and have the ability to allow different screening techniques and line screens on the same separation. The fades Anna Sciancalepore uses virtual proofing technology enabled by the Kodak TIFF Assembler Plus. This capability has proven to be a powerful process control tool for Flexi Printing Plate Co.
Opening new doors with Kodak
Flexi Printing Plate has always staked its business on pushing the quality envelope of what can be predictably accomplished in flexographic printing. Co-owner Fred Moss says, “This company philosophy, coupled with the Flexographic Technical Association’s ‘First’ program, forms the basis of our color theory. This Kodak Solution opens up an entirely new area of the market for us, by enabling us to reproduce a larger tonal range accurately and repeatably. We’ve found Kodak to be very, very helpful in getting us started, training our people, then following up. Not only do they provide the service they commit to, they are knowledgeable, and that’s the key.”
Ultimately, its new CTP solution from Kodak is enabling the trade platemaker to strengthen and expand those relationships. “Our added value is our expertise and the quality we deliver,” states Fred Moss. “Implementing Kodak’s flexo CTP solution has definitely opened new doors for us. We expect it to drive real growth across the board.”
